Transfer with an English-speaking guide. Visit Buenos Aires (half day, private tour). Buenos Aires, a cosmopolitan city with European features, is among the 10 most active cities in the world. City of arts, cultures, theaters, traditions ... The variety satisfies the most demanding visitor. You visit the 9 de Julio Avenue, the widest in the world, dominated by the obelisk, a symbol of Buenos Aires. You will pass the Colon Theatre, one of the jewels of the Argentine architecture. Then you arrive to the famous or central Plaza de Mayo, next to buildings such as the Casa Rosada or Casa de Gobierno, the Cabildo and the Cathedral. You end your day with the picturesque neighborhood of La Boca, and specifically the alley El Caminito, the spot for painters, tango dancers and singers. Return to your hotel after the visit. Day 2: City Tour Buenos Aires - Buenos Aires - Aéroport de Trelew - Puerto Madryn Visit Buenos Aires (half day and private tour). Buenos Aires, a cosmopolitan city with European features, is among the 10 most active cities in the world. City of arts, cultures, theatres, traditions ... The variety satisfies even the most demanding visitor. Guided tour of Recoleta neighbourhood, characterized by many colonial houses, often old houses of historical figures, currently inhabited by powerful Argentine families. You enter the luxurious Pacifico Shopping Center, characterized by its French architecture of 1889, with vaulted ceilings. This stunning place is one of the favourite places in Argentina. Later you visit Recoleta Cemetery, where many celebrities, writers and politicians rest. The best known and most revered, even today is the tomb of Evita Peron, the legendary wife of President Peron. You continue your visit to Palermo neighbourhood, with a stroll in the park Tres de Febrero, inaugurated in 1875, representing the largest green area of the city. Return to your hotel. Day 3: Puerto Madryn - Peninsula Valdes reserve - Puerto Madryn In the morning, on a pool excursion, you will be heading to Valdés Peninsula, home to countless marine fauna. You will discover Birds´Island, on the Ameghino Isthmus and Puerto Pirámides, a seaside town located on the cliffs of the Peninsula. Between February and April, you can witness the Orcas approaching the beach and enjoy their sightseeing. In fact, they have developed a special hunting technique for the sea lion: taking in the high tide and the big waves, they swim violently towards the beach and manage to catch any resting or distracted sea lion. The next wave will help the Orca get back to the sea with its prey. Highly successful and impressive, this is a one of a kind technique, but also very risky. The young Orcas only have one try to understand the subtleness, if they fail they can get stuck on the beach and possibly die. Excursion from mid-May to mid-December: From Puerto Pirámides, you embark to watch the Southern Right Whale. They are characterized by their smooth and slow movements, and being so curious, they get very close to the boats. Therefore it allows us to easily observe their skin covered by calluses. From time to time, they swim under the boats, releasing a particular sound and then they surprise us with their plunging. It is an unforgettable sight. If the weather is fair and luck is on your side, you will get to watch dolphins following the boat. Return to Puerto Madryn. Note: please remember to bring a waterproof and windbreaker jacket, sunglasses and sunscreen. Excursion from January to March/April: The whales have migrated to the Southern Seas, but you have the chance of another sea excursion to the Loberia of Punta Pirámides, shelter to sea lions. From a viewing deck and according to the season, you will observe the different activities performed by this colony of sea lions: from the formation of harems, giving birth to breeding and so on. You will also visit a Cormorant colony and other sea and land birds and then head into a cave full of fossils. Return trip back to Puerto Madryn. Day 4: Puerto Madryn - Punta Tombo - Puerto Madryn Excursion in pool service with english guide to Punta Tombo, the most important continental penguin reserve in South America. Every year, between September and April, this reserve is home to half a million penguins. We return to Puerto Madryn. Day 6: National Tierra del Fuego Park - Canal de Beagle - Ushuaia Half day excursion to Tierra del Fuego National Park in a private service. Located at only 11 km from Ushuaia, and next to the border with Chile, it has 63.000 hectares full of lakes, lagoons and rivers and exit towards Beagle Channel, characteristic that marks the difference with the other national parks of Argentina. We will drive out of the city passing by the slope of the Susana Mount, where there is the Southern Fuegian Railway. Then we continue through the Pipo River Valley to the detour that takes us to Ensenada Bay, where we will contemplate the Redonda and Estorbo Islands and on the other coast the Beagle Channel, the snow-white Mountains of the Sampaio Chain (Chile). Then we will go to Roca Lake and Lapataia River. We will go towards the other end of the Park, where National Route Nº 3 finishes, at Lapataia Bay. Here we can find the Green Lagoon and the Black Lagoon, large growing peat bog. Finally we will pass by the beaver dams, whose footpath will lead to Lapataia Bay. Return to Ushuaia at lunch time. Excursion of 4 hours approximately. Excursion with an English speaking guide. Entrance fee to the National Park included. Departure from the hotel on a pool service to the Ushuaia Port, where you will embark on a 2 hour and 30 minute navigation through the Beagle Channel. With this sailing you will discover the Fuegian geography and fauna. We visit the Pajaros Island, famous shelter of Royal and Imperial Cormorant, Albatross and more than 20 seabirds. Then we will sail near Lobos Island, where you can witness two species of Sea Lions. While returning, we see Ushuaia, dominated by the striking beauty of Martial Mountain Range. Day 8: El Calafate - Perito Moreno Glacier - El Calafate At 8 am, transfer with a private vehicle, to go to the Perito Moreno Glacier, 80km away from El Calafate. This full-day excursion allows you to thoroughly enjoy the exceptional natural surroundings. You will delight in the panoramic views, afforded by countless foot-bridges of the glacier and its surrounding lenga beech forest. Return trip to El Calafate at 4:30 pm approximately. From the port , you embark on a navigation of 45 minutes to enjoy the north side of the glacier, aboard a 50 passenger boat. Day 9: Navigation - Lago Argentino - El Calafate Transfer on pool service from your hotel, you will be picked up around 7:30 am and will undertake the journey of 40 Km to Punta Bandera, where you will embark. Full day sailing, covering the northern arm of Lake Argentino, watching the Spegazzini and Upsala glaciers, entering the bays that they form and sailing through the cord of icebergs located about 20 km from the Upsala glacier. Return to Punta Bandera and then to El Calafate. Total time of navigation: 5 hours on boats designed for 250 passengers. Entrance to Los Glaciares National Park included. Day 11: Salta - Cachi Departure to Cachi, located at 2200masl, at 157km from Salta. We drive through spectacular landscapes such as those offered by the Piedra del Molino mountain pass at 3,600 meters, the Quebrada de Escoipe, a deep gorge where the green of the woods contrasts with the ochre of the soil on the bare mountains of “Cuesta del Obispo” and Los Cardones National Park composed of stark expanses scattered with candelabrum-shaped cacti… Cachi is a tranquil Andean native village featuring low-whitewashed houses and the San José Church with its sculpted roof of cactus-wood dating back to the eighteenth century. We visit the small archaeological museum which has a wonderful collection of pre-Inca and Inca ceramics, especially those pertaining to the Santa María culture. We head to La Paya Ruins. It is an important site, with many ring walls, circular stone tombs and the place known as the Casa Morada del Inca, a separate building from the rest, apparently built as a transit station in the Inca Trail. Day 12: Cachi - Cafayate Departure by private vehicle to reach the small town of Molinos, dating from 1659; there is a church, probably erected in the late eighteenth century, by the last royal governor of Salta, Don Nicolás Severo of Isasmendi, buried there. Around this chapel, the town of Molinos grew. You cross the majestic "Quebrada de las Flechas" surrounded by a mysterious moonscape. White dunes announce the nearness of Cafayate, the largest city in the valley of Calchaquies, whose economy relies on the wine industry. Wine tasting in the evening. Night at Killa hotel ***. Day 13: Cafayate - Salta This morning, we travel to Salta through the “Quebrada de las Conchas” which undoubtedly offers the visitor one of the most spectacular landscapes in the Northwest of Argentina, with its imposing semi-desert mountains featuring multi-colored rock formations sculpted by erosion. Day 14: Salta - Purmamarca We ride in a private vehicle along the railway tracks of the famous “Tren de las Nubes” and head first for Salinas Grandes and then for Purmamarca. We leave Salta (1,200masl) and after a 166km (104mi) ride, we arrive in San Antonio de los Cobres at 3,774masl. But first we visit Santa Rosa de Tastil (3,200masl) and the pre-Inca site which dates back to the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries AD (a half-hour walk, approximately). Later, we stop in San Antonio de los Cobres. Surrounded by mountains with virtually no vegetation, this wind swept village and its low buildings give an impression of remoteness. We visit the small museum dedicated to the highest railway-track in the world. Countless pictures describe its construction in the 1930s: what a saga! As we follow our road, we reach a vast white expanse of land which contrasts against the pure blue of the sky. We are now in the very midst of one of the largest salt deserts in Argentina (1,200 sq. km), Salinas Grandes. As we drive along a winding dirt track for a few miles, we reach the Lipán Mountain Pass, located at 4,170masl and later the last stop of the day’s tour: Purmamarca, “the Holy Land” in Aymara language. This little town is renowned for its seven-colored mountain, “Cerro de los Siete Colores”, a mineral rainbow. Note: during the rainy season, between November and March, the access to the Salinas Grandes might become virtually impossible. Night at Los Colorados Cabins ***. Day 15: Purmamarca - Salta - Puerto Iguazu A quiet day-start to enjoy the "Cerro de los 7 Colores" and the village of Purmamarca. Departure by private vehicle to hit the Andean road, arrive after twenty kilometres to Pucará Tilcara, a pre-Hispanic Omaguaca village founded over 900 years ago. We visit the village and the remarkable collection housed in its museum including mummies, funeral vases, jewellery and other objects found in archaeological sites in the Northwest of Argentina. We continue north to Humahuaca, located at 2940masl, one of the most important trade centres in times of the Vice Regency of Peru. Then we go south all the way to San Salvador de Jujuy and include a visit to the Huacalera chapel which dates back to 1655 and was restored in 1944. Day 16: Puerto Iguazu - Iguazu National Park, Argentinean side - Navigation - Puerto Iguazu chutes-iguazu-1.jpg Departure to the Iguazú National Park, 18 km from the city centre. Walk along the lower and upper footbridges in the Devil’s Gorge. The Iguazu falls in the Misiones province are always beyond the expectation and the imagination of the visitors. It is often said that the falls are to be admired from the Brazilian side but experienced in the Argentinean side. A complete tour should thus include both sides of the falls. They are formed by a 70 meters drop in the elevation of the Iguazu River with 275 falls. The first day of the tour is dedicated to the Argentinean side where the falls can be seen from various viewing, you can admire falls such as Bosetti, Mbigua and San Martin. We will continue with the lower circuit to observe the Dos Hermanas falls and the San Martin Island. In the afternoon, the tour goes to the "Garganta del Diablo" circuit with a viewing point in front of the superb and powerful fall, over 150 meters long and 80 meters high. This impressive wonder is surrounded with a thick mist which is one of the biggest attractions of the National Park. The park does not only feature this stunning landscape but also an intense wildlife and flora. Note: Please remember to take light waterproof clothing along. Optional: A nautical Adventure: this adventure consists in a twelve-minute ride on board a twin-engine boat that leaves opposite island San Martín. During this excursion, the visitor experiences the uniqueness of being engulfed by the thick surrounding mist and enjoys a panoramic view of the Brazilian side of the waterfalls. Note: this excursion is not recommended for pregnant women or people with physical disabilities (when disembarking, the visitor has to climb up a stairs 100 meter long to reach the footbridges). Day 17: Iguazu National Park Brazilian side - Puerto Iguazu Departure to the Brazilian side of the waterfalls. The 1,200 meters circuit takes the visitor along footbridges and viewing decks to admire the minor Floriano and Teodoro Da Fonseca falls and finally, the Santa María falls, from where the panorama onto Island San Martín and the entirety of the falls is absolutely breathtaking.
